Technical Lead

London, Great Britain, United Kingdom expand job description ↓

Lead teams on complex new projects for exciting brands.

8+ years of industry experience and desire to lead.

We’re looking for an experienced engineer to join our passionate, lean, agile, fast growing, tech-loving and dynamic team on a permanent basis. The projects we are working on are all innovative with amazing frontend design and UX.

You will be a polyglot with extensive experience across a wide range of technologies and projects, and will relish tackling and solving tough problems.

You’ll be comfortable designing and articulating solutions, working closely with clients to ensure we’re delivering the right thing in the right way. Understanding that delivering beautiful, working software, which meets the user’s needs, is paramount. You’ll have the confidence to promote this.

You’ll get your hands dirty in the code on a daily basis to ensure that you remain relevant as a leader.

You’ll be passionate about moving Red Badger forward and be a champion of best practices, patterns, process and tech. You’ll do this by being a mentor, inspiring your peers and educating our clients.

The tech

Our developers have the opportunity to work at the bleeding edge of web development on real world projects, and lean heavily on open source. We also often open source our own projects.

We don't dictate how you work at Red Badger, as a lead you will look after a totally autonomous team and will be entrusted to make the right decisions. You will allow each solution to drive the technology choice, not the other way around. You will be technology agnostic and choose the right tool for the job.

Our favourite tech at the moment includes:

  • Git, Github
  • ES 2015/16
  • React.js, Relay.js, Flux, Universal apps, GraphQL
  • node.js,
  • Ruby, Ruby on Rails
  • Less, Sass, CSS Modules
  • Mocha, Sinon, Chai, Jasmine, RSpec
  • Nginx, ElasticSearch, Redis, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL
  • Vagrant, Docker, Ansible, Amazon Web Services Stack, Heroku
  • Responsive (and Adaptive) Layouts
  • Go, Clojure, Haskell

How we work

We work in close, multi-disciplined teams made up of some of the industry’s best UX designers, digital designers, developers, testers and agile project managers. We always work in an agile manner, mostly Kanban these days. We look to continuously improve our lean processes and are always looking for a better way to do things.

We work on large, technically complex, projects for great brands such as Fortnum & Mason, Sky and Tesco to name but a few. Take a closer look at some of our work here.

About Red Badger

The best bit about Red Badger is of course the team. We’ve been around for 6 years now and we are nearly 90 strong. We are really proud of our team; we support and learn a lot from each other; we work really hard but have fun doing it. We are a diverse group made up of 16 different nationalities, we speak 17 different languages and unusually for a tech company we have a 50/50 gender split.

We were founded by 3 guys who have considerable tech and consultancy experience and still own 100% of the company. We’ve been consistently profitable and have grown responsibly from the beginning.

We are based at Old Street in the heart of “tech city” and get thoroughly stuck in with the brilliant community around us. We run several meetups including the hugely popular London React.js User Group, and the new Functional Programming on the Web meetup, invite other groups to host their events in our office such as ElasticSearch London and Ladies Who Code and speak at events like Digital Shoreditch and LNUG.

We make sure our team is well looked after with generous salaries and a great benefits package which includes -

Annual £2K training budget
